CTV Montreal is looking for a highly organized self-starter to help lead a team of journalists and technical staff across platforms. Reporting to the News Director, this management position will oversee multiple aspects of news content creation and production. Top-level editorial and writing abilities are essential, as is a passion and strong understanding of local news. The successful candidate must demonstrate proven abilities to inspire and lead a team, and for working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing editorial and technical staff, resources and workflow
  • Providing strategic leadership on all station projects
  • Determining editorial direction of daily multi-platform news content
  • Overseeing choice of topics and angles for coverage, and story development
  • Planning future news coverage, special projects and resource allocation
  • Innovating, adapting to market trends, and constantly improving presentation
  • Approving scripts and ensuring engaging storytelling and continuity writing
  • Optimizing collaboration and communication with other Bell Media platforms 
  • Managing and tracking costs within allocated budgets 
  • Ensuring compliance with ethical and legal norms
  • Recruiting, training and evaluating news and technical staff
  • Carrying out administrative functions
  • Other duties as assigned, including acting on behalf of News Director 

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant editorial experience
  • Degree or equivalent diploma in journalism or related field 
  • Proven understanding of editorial and production workflow
  • Control Room experience an asset
  • Proven ability to thrive and make complex editorial decisions on tight deadlines
  • Highly developed news sense, editorial judgement and organizational skills
  • Proven experience driving breaking news coverage and special broadcasts
  • Impeccable English language skills both verbal and written. Bilingual English & French
  • Able to handle multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Positive, proactive and collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Creative problem solver with constant eye on the big picture
  • In-depth knowledge of local news, national and international news
  • Available to work outside typical office hours

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Bilingualism is required (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
